You practiced real conversations on screen. Now have one for real β in the next 24 hours.
Challenge 1
Start a conversation with someone you don't usually talk to β a classmate, a coworker, someone in your neighborhood. Use one of the openers you practiced: "Hey, what'd you think of [shared experience]?" Keep it to 2-3 exchanges. That's a win.
Why this matters: Conversation skills only develop through real conversations. The activity gave you scripts β now test them in the wild. Even an awkward attempt teaches you more than another practice round.
Challenge 2
During a conversation today, practice active listening: after the other person finishes talking, respond to what THEY said before adding your own thought. Try "that makes sense because..." or "wait, so you're saying..." before changing the subject.
Why this matters: Most people listen to respond, not to understand. Responding to their point first β before jumping to yours β makes people feel heard, and they'll want to talk to you more.
Challenge 3
Notice one moment today where a conversation feels awkward or stalls. Instead of bailing or going silent, try one rescue move: ask a follow-up question about something they mentioned earlier. "Wait, go back to the thing about [topic] β what happened?"
Why this matters: Awkward silences happen to everyone. Having a go-to rescue move (a callback question) means you'll never be stuck again. It also shows the other person you were actually listening.
